FITZGERALD ROTARY AND BEN HILL COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT PARTNER TO END THREAT OF MENINGITIS

The Fitzgerald Rotary Board of Directors voted unanimously on August 2 to accept a project presented by Gary Smith to collaborate with the Ben Hill Health Department under the leadership of Nurse Manager Dale Niday to provide immunizations for the deadly Meningicoccal virus to all Ben Hill childeren ages 11 and above.  Fitzgerald Rotary will provide advertisement and solicit volunteers to assist with mass immunization days that will be scheduled in the schools and community.
Fitzgerald Rotary has long honored the memory of Cory Hall, son of Rotarian Tim and Pam Hall, who was victimized by the virus in 1998 by presenting scholarships to Fitzgerald High School Seniors.
"A campaign to encourage and provide immunizations to our children in our community can hopefully prevent pain and suffering from other families" stated project chair Gary Smith.

During the installation meeting in June, incoming  President Jad Dixon (on left) presents outgoing President Mark Sutton with a plaque denoting his service to the club for the year.  Club Treasurer Steve Gibbons also presented Mark Sutton with his Paul Harris credentials.

DGND Gary Smith was honored as the club's Service Above Self recipient for the 2010 - 2011 year.  Presenting the plaque is Club President Mark Sutton.  Smith also received his fourth and fifth Paul Harris recognition during the ceremony.
